Crown Casino Resort Announce James Packer’s Replacement

Added: May 03, 2018

Following his resignation in March, Crown Casino Resort finally announced James Packer’s replacement to occupy the role of director at the casino. The seat was left vacant for over a month while considerations were made on who could best fill the position. Consolidated Press Holdings nominated John Poynton to occupy the vacancy. The nomination is despite the fact that he currently serves as a director of Crowns Perth subsidiary, Burswood Limited.

James Packer’s Replacement’s Background

John Poynton has a glowing résumé, currently occupying the role of chairman of advisory firm Jindalee, SC8 and oil & gas company Strike Energy. He is also listed as a director of ECU’s Security Research Institute Advisory Board. John Alexander, who is Crown Casino’s executive chairman sang Poynton’s praises, indicating how he’s an ‘experienced director and deputy chairman…to a number of ASX-listed companies’. Poynton will fill Packer's position on the board as a non-executive director pending regulatory approvals.

James Packer’s Decision to Resign

Billionaire tycoon, James Packer, resigned as director of his Crown Casino Resort alluding to mental health reasons. Packer’s decision to step down in March 2018 was not the first time he has decided to relinquish his role at the company. Packer has battled bouts of depression and anxiety for a long time, needing to check himself in the hospital for treatment. In his absence, the Melbourne casino has been hit with slot machine tampering allegations and subsequently fined AU$300 000.

There is no predicting as to whether this is a temporary fix or not, as Packer has done it before. He has since kept a low profile, believed to be in the United States receiving help for his mental health issues.
